If you are currently doing research for an assignment, a Zotero Research Assistant Guide to Referencing is now available on the guides section of the library website. Zotero is an open source tool that is easy to use for compiling citations and bibliographies as well as collecting, organizing, annotating and sharing research. Documents in either Word or PDF format stored on the desktop can be copied directly into Zotero.
Folders can be created quite easily so that documents are organised into collections. There are thousands of citation styles available. This guide explains how to import references in the Harvard style directly into a Word document. A plugin is also available and this needs to be downloaded separately. Once installed, the icon appears in the toolbar of the web browser. This enables researchers to save documents directly from websites and import them directly into the Zotero application.
The guide is available to download at this link: Guide-to-Zotero-Research-Assistant.pdf (imi.ie). If you need further help using Zotero or have any other citing and referencing queries please email knowledge@imi.ie.
