We have shortened the length of time a book can be held behind the desk from 4 days down to 3.
A hold prevents the current borrower from renewing their loan, meaning that the book must go to the next person in the queue. As soon as the book is scanned in the next person in the queue is automatically notified that it is available. Most borrowers respond straight away but we feel it is only fair to keep the book behind the desk and allow a reasonable amount of time for a response before the hold expires. Expired holds default to the next person in the queue, if there is one, or return to normal circulation. Shortening the length of the hold period is intended to speed up circulation and reduce the waiting period if there is another borrower in the holds queue. We hope this will be of benefit to all!
