Approximately 70% of major change efforts fail but John Kotter's eight step model offers a roadmap for successful change.
The eight steps are as follows: 1) Establish a sense of urgency, 2) Form a powerful coalition, 3) Create a vision, 4) Communicate the vision, 5) Removing obstacles, 6) Plan and create short-term wins,
7) Consolidate improvements and 8) Make the change stick.
Kotter supports this model with various statistics including how 75% of managers must believe that the status quo is unacceptable in order to kick-start change and that 71% of employees feel that their managers don't spend enough time explaining change plans and goals.
